Your Guide to April in Prince Edward County

Spring has arrived at Lilac Lane; the days are longer, the sun’s warmth is returning, and the bunnies are munching on the grass. The Blue Jays, Robins, and many other birds have returned, a wonderful energy grows daily.

Ian and I are getting ready to welcome our guests starting May 1. But for those visitors making Prince Edward County their destination in April, there are plenty of things to check out.

Spring Countylicious – April 4 - 28

Prepare your palates for a culinary journey through Prince Edward County this April. Over 21 local restaurants are participating in Spring Countylicious, offering special 2-course lunches and 3-course dinners made from locally sourced ingredients. Check out visitthecounty.com for a complete list of restaurants and menus.

Epicurean Eclipse – April 6

Celebrated Chef Jamie Kennedy curates a mouthwatering four-course meal at this fundraiser to support the County Food Hub on Saturday, April 6, at Base31 in Picton. The evening begins at 5 pm with signature cocktails by @jollycutcocktail made with @barebonesdistillery or a glass of bubbly from @grangewinery and appetizers, followed by a dinner prepared by @chefjamiekennedy using local ingredients, accompanied by live music. The night offers a photobooth by @crushedicepro, a silent auction, and a DJ and dancing post-dinner, with beverages from @grangewinery throughout the evening, and no strict dress code but a suggestion to wear gold and blues to match the theme.

Total Solar Eclipse – April 8

It promises to be an unforgettable experience in the County, as our location is one of the best places in Canada to witness a total solar eclipse. Our location provides a “path of totality,” meaning the sun will be obscured by the moon around 3:21 pm. Numerous locations will feature this special event, and special glasses will be available. Check out visitthecounty.com for locations.

Waupoos Tarts – Now Open

To experience some of the best butter tarts, visit Waupoos Tarts on County Road 8 (on your way to the winery). Joel just opened, and you can check out what’s on offer six days a week from 9 am-6 pm. They are so delicious.

Vicki’s Veggie Stand – Now Open

It is a delightful experience offering fresh everything: greens, carrots, beets, garlic, radishes, sweet potatoes, Shishito dip… plus all the other dips, soups, pies, tarts, Nanaimo bars, lamb, beef, flowers, teas, hot sauces, tinned fish.
